The Conservative Party of Canada will now have Erin O’Toole at the helm.

Over the past eight months, leadership candidates modernized campaign techniques to reach as many Canadians as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 269,000 members and nearly 175,000 participating in the voting process, this is the largest voter turnout for any party in Canadian history.

In a media release, Gary Vidal, Member of Parliament for Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River, said he is proud of the hard work the O’Toole team and all four candidates put in.

“I would like to congratulate Erin on becoming the next leader of our party, and in time, the next Prime Minister of Canada,” Vidal said.

Justin Trudeau has prorogued Parliament to return on September 23 when there will be a Speech from the Throne, leading to an impending confidence vote.

“Thanks to Justin Trudeau’s poor leadership as Prime Minister, Canada has never been as divided as it is now,” Vidal said in the release. “I look forward to working with Erin as our new leader to hold Justin Trudeau to account, and present a positive Conservative alternative to Canadians, whenever the next election may be.”

In response to Canadians job loss, hope, and faith in government, Vidal said he remains committed to his constituents.

“I will continue to build authentic relationships in every corner of the riding and advocate on behalf of everyone in Northern Saskatchewan,” Vidal said.
